Metro Vancouver Transit Police has made an arrest and will recommend charges to the BC Prosecution Service following after-hours break-ins at the West Coast Express Station in Coquitlam.
Evidence of two break-ins to the station were reported by Compass Vending Machine Technicians who noted that there had been attempts to break into the machines. The first break-in was reported on January 20, 2025, and the second on February 10. Both incidents occurred on the weekend while the West Coast Express was not operating.
On February 27, following an investigation by the Transit Police General Investigation Unit, a suspect was identified and arrested. The suspect, a 41-year-old man from Coquitlam, has been released with conditions, pending his upcoming court date.
“This arrest is further proof that property crime on the transit system never pays off. With thousands of specialized frontline transit staff, countless CCTV cameras in stations and onboard vehicles, and a dedicated Transit Police service, the probability of suspects being identified and arrested is incredibly high,” said Sergeant Dustin Szakacs.
Anyone who experiences or witnesses a crime on or near transit is asked to report it. Call 604.515.8300 or text 87.77.77 for Transit Police. Always call 9-1-1 in an emergency.
