Residents of Squamish seeking a family doctor can now register with a new clinic and pharmacy on Dowad Drive. The Terra Nova Medical Clinic and the Garibaldi Pharmacy started operations in early February and are situated in The Wilfred condo building at 1870 Dowad Drive.
Dean George, owner of Garibaldi Pharmacy, expressed his hopes for community backing to ensure the clinic’s sustainability and expansion. He emphasized the importance of residents considering Garibaldi Pharmacy for their prescription needs, as this directly contributes to the clinic’s ability to thrive and expand its services within Squamish.
“It would be nice if patients would support me by filling their prescriptions at the pharmacy. That way, it helps to keep the clinic open because if the pharmacy does well, it means the clinic can stay and grow,” Dean says.
In opening the pharmacy, Dean drew inspiration from successful models in Lower Mainland where independent pharmacies work with medical clinics to bring physicians to communities that need them. The Terra Nova clinic currently has one doctor, with plans to bring two nurses and an additional family doctor to the Dowad Drive facility. Prospective patients seeking family doctors can obtain registration forms from the clinic and request electronic copies via email.
Dean George’s vision for Garibaldi Pharmacy extends beyond conventional pharmaceutical services. Having previously worked in larger pharmacies in Squamish and Whistler, Dean sought to establish an independent pharmacy that prioritizes personalized care and innovation in medication delivery.
Garibaldi Pharmacy distinguishes itself by offering compounding services, enabling the creation of customized medicines tailored to individual patient needs. Equipped with a dedicated compounding room and specialized equipment, the pharmacy ensures swift turnaround times for medications, with plans to introduce same-day delivery services at competitive prices.
Dean George says the clinic will offer personalized care, highlighting the pharmacist’s ability to provide tailored advice and support to patients throughout their treatment journeys. “The huge thing for me is personalized care. I always try to follow up personally with all my patients, and I will be able to spend that extra time to ensure that everything is right and the treatment is right. If a patient has a problem with a prescription, I can always provide advice and help them tweak things,” he says.
