One man was arrested Friday afternoon after a witness reported seeing him handle a firearm near the intersection of 6th Avenue and 7th Street.
New Westminster Police responded to the 9-1-1 call around 4:30 p.m. on March 29. Officers quickly located a man matching the suspect description. He was arrested without incident, and a pistol was found in his possession during a search.
The suspect remains in custody as police recommend several charges, including one count of breach of probation, five counts of possession contrary to a court order, and one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
“This suspect has a lengthy criminal history,” said Sergeant Andrew Leaver. “Thanks to the brave officers who located and quickly arrested this armed suspect.”
Police also thanked the witness who reported the incident, emphasizing the importance of public vigilance in supporting community safety.
